Rumors of a Mafia 2 remaster have been swirling since publisher Take-Two Interactive registered three seperate trademarks last year. The individual trademarks list the publisher as 2K Games, with Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13 working on the project. Many recall feeling apprehensive rather than excited when Mafia III was first announced in 2015.The reason was crystal clear: The game was handed over to a new team called Hangar 13 instead of 2K Czech, who developed the first two instalments. As a prequel, fans quickly assumed that Mafia 4 would focus on the Salieri crime family featured in the first game of the franchise. Mafia III Literally Average Playing as Lincoln is a fun experience but nothing more. Neither definitive version has received an official announcement so far, but eagle-eyed Twitter user Nibellion has linked to the website of the ratings board where both games have been registered by Take-Two Asia for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Codenamed Nero, Mafia 4 is rumoured to be a prequel made in Unreal Engine 5, as opposed to the studio’s bespoke engine which was used in previous franchise instalments.
